Equipment

  • Electric mixer
  • Spatula
  • Plastic wrap
  • Oven
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Rolling pin
  • Cookie cutters
  • Wire rack

Ingredients

Cookie Dough

  • 1 cup Unsalted Butter softened to room temperature
  • 1 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1 Large Egg
  • 2 ½ cups All-Purpose Flour

Instructions

Preparation

  • Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar in a large mixing bowl using an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the egg until fully incorporated, scraping down the bowl to ensure a well-combined mixture.
  • Gradually add the all-purpose flour to the wet ingredients on low speed, mixing just until a soft dough forms without overmixing.
  • Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  • While the dough chills, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Baking

  • Roll out the chilled dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness and cut out shapes using cookie cutters.
  • Carefully transfer the cut-out cookies to the prepared baking sheet, leaving about an inch of space between them.
  • Bake for 8-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  • Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For best results, make sure your butter is truly at room temperature for optimal creaming. Don't overmix the dough after adding flour, as this can lead to tough cookies. Experiment with different cookie cutter shapes and decorate with your favorite frosting or sprinkles once cooled!
