  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 cup finely diced apples Granny Smith or Honeycrisp recommended

Glaze

  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tablespoons milk or water

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your waffle iron and lightly grease it if necessary.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry, stirring gently until just combined with a few lumps.
  • Gently fold the finely diced apples into the batter.

Cooking

  • Spoon about 1/4 to 1/2 cup of batter into the preheated waffle iron and cook for 3-5 minutes until golden brown and crisp.
  • While cooking, prepare the glaze by whisking powdered sugar with 2-3 tablespoons of milk or water until smooth.

Serving

  • Transfer cooked waffle donuts to a wire rack and drizzle generously with glaze while warm. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

For best results, use Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples for their tartness and crisp texture. Do not overmix the batter to ensure light and fluffy waffle donuts. Adjust the glaze consistency to your liking by adding more liquid or powdered sugar. These are best served immediately!
