Equipment

  • Large bowl
  • Sharp knife
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper

Ingredients

For the Dough

  • 2 sheets Puff Pastry thawed

For the Filling

  • 2 Lbs Chicken Breast cooked and shredded
  • 1.5 cups Cheddar Cheese shredded
  • 4 oz Cream Cheese softened
  • 0.5 medium Onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic minced
  • 0.25 cup Chicken Broth
  • 2 tbsp Fresh Parsley chopped
  • 0.5 tsp Salt
  • 0.25 tsp Black Pepper

For Assembly

  • 1 Egg beaten for egg wash

Instructions

Prepare the Filling

  • In a large bowl, combine the shredded chicken, cheddar cheese, cream cheese, chopped onion, minced garlic, chicken broth, fresh parsley, salt, and pepper.
  • Mix until all ingredients are well combined and the filling is evenly distributed.

Assemble the Jalousie

  • Unroll one sheet of puff pastry on a lightly floured surface or parchment paper.
  • Spread the chicken and cheese filling evenly over half of the pastry, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges.
  • Fold the other half of the pastry over the filling, aligning the edges. Gently press down on the edges to seal the pastry.
  • Using a sharp knife, make several diagonal slits on the top of the pastry, being careful not to cut through to the filling.
  • Brush the top of the pastry with the beaten egg wash.

Bake the Jalousie

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Transfer the assembled jalousie to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed up.
  • Let the jalousie cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

For an extra golden crust, ensure adequate egg wash and consider a slightly higher baking temperature for the initial few minutes. You can customize the filling with different cheeses or add vegetables like bell peppers or spinach. This recipe is also great for meal prepping; you can assemble it ahead of time and bake when ready.
