  • 1 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy, e.g., almond, soy, oat)
  • 1 medium apple peeled, cored, and finely diced
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Streusel Topping

  • 1 tablespoon crushed nuts (pecans, walnuts)

Preparation

  • In a jar or container, combine the rolled oats, milk, finely diced apple, 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon, a pinch of nutmeg, and 1 tablespoon maple syrup.
  • Stir all ingredients thoroughly until well combined. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.

Serving

  • The next morning, prepare the streusel by mixing crushed nuts, brown sugar, and a pinch of cinnamon in a small bowl.
  • Stir the overnight oats; if too thick, add a splash of milk to reach the desired consistency.
  • Top the oats with the prepared streusel mixture and serve cold, or warm gently in the microwave if preferred.

Notes

For extra flavor, you can toast the nuts lightly before crushing them for the streusel topping. Feel free to adjust the sweetness to your liking by adding more or less maple syrup.
