Ingredients
  

Cookie Dough

  • 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks), softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour

Preparation

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Cream softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, scraping down the bowl as needed.
  • Gradually add flour, mixing on low speed until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  • Gather the dough into a ball and flatten it slightly into a disk.
  • Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30-60 minutes to prevent spreading.
  • Roll out chilled dough to ¼-inch thickness on a lightly floured surface and cut out shapes.
  • Transfer cookies to the baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes, until edges are lightly golden.
  • Cool cookies on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For best results, make sure your butter is truly softened but not melted. You can also vary the shapes and decorate with icing or sprinkles once completely cooled.
