Equipment

  • Oven
  • Donut Pan
  • Large Bowl
  • Medium Bowl
  • Whisk
  • Small Saucepan
  • Wire Rack

Ingredients

For the Donuts:

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
  • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup pumpkin puree not pie filling
  • ½ cup milk
  • ¼ cup melted butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Caramel Glaze:

  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • ¼ cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar

Instructions

Donut Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a donut pan or pans.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, ginger, and salt.
  • In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the pumpkin puree, milk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix gently until just combined; do not overmix.
  • Spoon the batter into the prepared donut pan(s), filling each cavity approximately two-thirds full.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into a donut comes out clean.

Glaze and Finishing

  • Let the donuts cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then carefully remove and place them on a wire rack to cool completely.
  • While the donuts cool, prepare the caramel glaze: In a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat, then stir in brown sugar and milk. Bring to a gentle boil, remove from heat, and stir in vanilla extract. Gradually whisk in powdered sugar until the glaze is smooth.
  • Once the donuts are completely cool, dip each donut into the warm caramel glaze and place them back on the wire rack to let the glaze set.

Notes

Ensure donuts are completely cool before glazing for the best results, preventing the warm glaze from melting off or becoming too thin.
