  • 1 large Egg for egg wash, optional

Hummus

  • 1 can (15 ounces) Canned Chickpeas rinsed and drained
  • 1/4 cup Tahini
  • 2 tablespoons Lemon Juice freshly squeezed
  • 1 small clove Garlic or 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons Olive Oil extra virgin
  • 2-4 tablespoons Water for thinning hummus
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cumin optional, for hummus

Decoration (Optional)

  • 10-12 Edible Googly Eyes

Instructions

Carrot Mummy Sticks

  • Wash and peel carrots, then cut them into 3-4 inch long and ½ inch thick sticks.
  • Preheat your oven to the temperature indicated on the puff pastry package and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Unroll the puff pastry sheet on a floured surface and cut it into ½ inch wide strips.
  • Wrap each carrot stick with pastry strips, overlapping slightly, to create a mummy look, leaving space for the "face" at the top.
  • (Optional) Beat the egg and brush it lightly over the wrapped carrots for a golden-brown finish.
  • Arrange the wrapped carrots on the baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes, until the pastry is golden and puffy.
  • Let the mummy sticks cool slightly on the baking sheet, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Hummus Preparation

  • In a food processor, combine chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice, garlic, olive oil, salt, and cumin (if using).
  • Process until smooth and creamy, adding water gradually if needed to reach your desired consistency.
  • Taste and adjust seasonings, adding more lemon juice or salt as preferred.

Assembly & Serving

  • Once the carrot mummy sticks are cool, carefully attach edible googly eyes to the "face" area using a tiny dab of hummus or cream cheese.
  • Serve the decorated Carrot Mummy Sticks with the freshly made hummus dip.

Notes

For softer carrots, blanch them in boiling water for 2-3 minutes, then immediately transfer to ice water before drying thoroughly. This step is optional but can improve the texture of the carrots in the mummy sticks.
