Equipment

  • large mixing bowl
  • electric mixer

Ingredients

Cream Cheese Frosting

  • 8 ounces full-fat cream cheese softened
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 3-4 cups powdered sugar sifted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1-2 tablespoons milk or cream optional, for thinning

Instructions

Making the Frosting

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese and butter. Beat with an electric mixer until smooth, light, and fluffy, scraping down the sides as needed (about 2-3 minutes).
  • Gradually add sifted powdered sugar, one cup at a time, mixing on low speed until combined. Add vanilla extract, then beat on medium-high speed for 1-2 minutes until light and airy.
  • If too thick, add milk or cream one teaspoon at a time until desired consistency. For a thicker frosting, add up to 1/2 cup more powdered sugar.

Notes

For best results, ensure both the cream cheese and butter are at room temperature before mixing to prevent lumps and ensure a smooth frosting. Adjust the amount of powdered sugar and milk/cream to achieve your preferred sweetness and consistency.
