Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • In a medium bowl, combine the shredded cooked roast beef, Swiss cheese, caramelized onions, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper; mix well.

Assembly and Baking

  • Unroll the thawed puff pastry onto a lightly floured surface or parchment paper.
  • Spread the beef and cheese mixture evenly over the pastry, leaving a small border.
  • Cut the pastry into your desired square or rectangular shapes.
  • Transfer the squares to a parchment-lined baking sheet and brush tops with beaten egg.
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes until puffed, golden brown, and heated through.

Serving

  • Serve warm with a side of au jus for dipping.

Notes

For best results, ensure your puff pastry is properly thawed but still cold before handling. If making your own caramelized onions, cook them slowly over low heat until deeply golden and sweet. The au jus can be made ahead of time and gently reheated. These squares are best served immediately but can be gently reheated in an oven to maintain crispness.
