Equipment

  • Large skillet or cast-iron pan
  • Lid or foil
  • Spatula or spoon

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs Ground Beef (80/20 lean)
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1 Onions large, thinly sliced
  • 2 Bell Peppers medium (any color, green is classic), thinly sliced
  • 2-3 Garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
  • Salt & Black Pepper to taste
  • 8 Provolone Cheese slices (or cheese whiz, or shredded cheddar/Monterey Jack blend)
  • 6-8 Hoagie Rolls good quality, split and lightly toasted

Optional Toppings

  • Jalapeños
  • Mushrooms
  • Hot Sauce

Instructions

Preparation

  • Thinly slice the onions and bell peppers, then mince the garlic.

Cooking

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat, add ground beef, and cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.
  • Add sliced onions and bell peppers to the skillet with the beef and cook for 8-10 minutes until softened and lightly caramelized.
  • Stir in minced garlic and cook for one minute until fragrant, then add Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper, mixing well.
  • Divide the beef mixture into portions in the skillet, place provolone cheese slices on top, and cover for 1-2 minutes until melted and gooey.

Assembly

  • Lightly toast the hoagie rolls while the cheese melts.
  • Scoop the cheesy beef mixture into the toasted hoagie rolls and serve immediately, optionally adding toppings.

Notes

For an extra kick, consider adding a pinch of red pepper flakes with the garlic. You can also experiment with different types of cheese like American or a spicy Monterey Jack. Ensure your hoagie rolls are sturdy enough to hold the generous filling without falling apart.
