Equipment

  • Roasting pan
  • Sharp knife
  • Foil
  • Small saucepan
  • Brush

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 7-10 pounds Pre-cooked, bone-in or boneless ham about
  • Honey pure, good quality is crucial
  • 1-2 tablespoons Brown sugar Optional
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard or ground cloves Optional

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C) and place the ham, fat-side up, in a large roasting pan.
  • Score the surface of the ham in a diamond pattern, about ¼-inch deep, using a sharp knife.

Baking and Glazing

  • Cover the roasting pan tightly with foil and bake the ham for 1 hour to warm it through.
  • While the ham bakes, gently warm honey in a small saucepan until liquid; optionally, stir in brown sugar, mustard, or cloves.
  • After 1 hour, remove the ham from the oven, uncover it, and brush about 1/3 of the honey glaze generously over the scored surface.
  • Return the ham to the oven, uncovered, and baste with remaining glaze every 15-20 minutes for another 1 to 1.5 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches 140°F (60°C) and the glaze is browned and sticky.

Resting

  • Once done, remove the ham from the oven, tent it loosely with foil, and let it rest for at least 15-20 minutes before carving.

Notes

For a richer glaze, you can add a splash of orange juice or apple cider to the honey mixture. Be careful not to let the glaze burn; if it starts to get too dark, tent the ham loosely with foil.
