Equipment

  • Large pot or Dutch oven

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 3-4 garlic, minced cloves
  • 1 crushed tomatoes (28 ounce) can
  • 4 cups vegetable broth
  • 12 ounces dried linguine
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)
  • Parmesan cheese for serving (optional)

Instructions

Cooking Steps

  • Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat, then sauté minced garlic and optional red pepper flakes until fragrant for about 1 minute.
  • Pour in crushed tomatoes and vegetable broth, then stir in dried oregano, salt, and pepper; bring to a gentle simmer.
  • Add dried pasta directly into the pot, ensuring it is mostly submerged, breaking longer pasta if necessary.
  • Reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer for 8-12 minutes until al dente, stirring occasionally; add more broth if needed.
  • Remove from heat once pasta is cooked and most liquid is absorbed, then stir in heavy cream until combined and creamy.
  • Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper, then serve hot, garnished with fresh basil and Parmesan cheese if desired.

Notes

Stirring the pasta occasionally is important to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the pot. Adjust the amount of red pepper flakes to your preferred spice level.
