Equipment

  • Large skillet or cast-iron pan
  • Paper towels
  • Whisk
  • Serving platter

Ingredients

Main

  • 1.5 lbs sirloin steak or flank, ribeye, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup for a slightly different note
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger grated
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • Red pepper flakes to taste (optional, for a little kick)
  • Fresh chives or sesame seeds for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preparation

  • Pat steak cubes dry with paper towels and season with salt and pepper.
  • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear steak in batches for 2-3 minutes per side until seared; remove and set aside.

Sauce and Combine

  • Reduce heat to medium. In the same pan, add soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, ginger, garlic, sesame oil, and optional red pepper flakes. Whisk until the sauce gently boils and thickens for 2-3 minutes.
  • Return seared steak to the pan, toss to coat with the glaze, and cook for 1-2 minutes until the sauce clings to the meat.

Serving

  • Remove from heat, transfer to a platter, and garnish with chives or sesame seeds if desired.

Notes

For best results, do not overcrowd the pan when searing the steak, as this can steam the meat instead of browning it. Adjust red pepper flakes to your preferred level of spice. Serve immediately for optimal taste and texture.
