  • 1 lb (450g) lean ground beef
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 medium onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 (15 oz) can crushed tomatoes (or diced)
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1 tsp dried Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp salt (or to taste)
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper (or to taste)
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (or a cheddar-jack blend)

  • Fresh parsley chopped (for garnish)

Cooking Instructions

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef, cook until browned, then drain excess fat.
  • Add chopped onion to the skillet and cook until softened. Stir in minced garlic and cook for one minute until fragrant.
  • Pour in crushed tomatoes and beef broth, then stir in Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10-15 minutes, covered, to meld flavors.
  • Sprinkle 1.5 cups of shredded cheese over the beef mixture, cover, and cook for 3-5 minutes until melted and bubbly.
  • Remove from heat; optionally sprinkle remaining 1/2 cup cheese and garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider adding a pinch of red pepper flakes with the Italian seasoning. Serve this dish over rice, pasta, or with crusty bread for a complete meal. You can also customize the cheese blend to your liking!
