Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients

  • 6 cups stale bread cubes sourdough or French bread
  • 1 lb cooked breakfast sausage crumbled
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Egg Mixture

  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon onion powder

Preparation

  • Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish and spread the stale bread cubes evenly on the bottom.
  • Sprinkle the crumbled cooked breakfast sausage over the bread, then add half of the shredded cheddar cheese.

Assemble & Chill

  • In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  • Pour the egg mixture over the casserole ingredients, ensuring the bread is soaked, then sprinkle with the remaining cheese.
  • Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight.

Bake & Serve

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and uncover the casserole.
  • Bake for 45-60 minutes until golden brown and a knife inserted comes out clean.
  • Let the casserole rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

For best results, allow the casserole to chill overnight to fully absorb the egg mixture. This casserole is easily customizable with various cheeses, vegetables, or different types of cooked meats.
