Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Microwave-safe bowls
  • Offset spatula
  • Parchment paper

Ingredients

Chocolate Layer

  • 12 ounces quality chocolate (milk, semi-sweet, or dark, or a mix)

Pretzel & Caramel Layer

  • 4 cups mini pretzel twists roughly crushed
  • 14 ounces soft caramels (e.g., Kraft Caramels), unwrapped
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream or milk
  • 1-2 teaspoons flaky sea salt for sprinkling

Instructions

Preparation

  • Line a large baking sheet (approximately 10x15 inches) with parchment paper to ensure easy removal of the bark.
  • Melt the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals until smooth, or use a double boiler.
  • Pour and spread the melted chocolate evenly onto the prepared baking sheet, forming a thin layer about ΒΌ inch thick.

Assembly

  • Immediately sprinkle the crushed pretzels over the melted chocolate and gently press them down to adhere.
  • In another bowl, melt the unwrapped caramels and heavy cream in 30-second intervals until smooth, being careful not to scorch them.
  • Drizzle the melted caramel evenly over the pretzel layer, using a spoon or a piped bag.
  • Generously sprinkle flaky sea salt over the caramel layer.

Finishing Touches

  • Refrigerate the baking sheet for 30-60 minutes until the chocolate and caramel are completely firm.
  • Once firm, remove the bark, peel it from the parchment paper, and break it into irregular pieces. Serve or store immediately.

Notes

For best results, use high-quality chocolate and caramels. You can also experiment with different types of pretzels for varied texture. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week, or in the refrigerator for longer freshness.
