  • Large Skillet

Ingredients

Stuffing

  • 10 cups day-old bread, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 yellow onions, chopped
  • 4 celery stalks, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh sage, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, chopped
  • 4 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 0.5 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper

Optional Add-ins

  • 1 chopped apples for a hint of sweetness
  • 1 cup cooked sausage for extra savory flavor
  • 0.5 cup chopped dried cranberries for a tart touch

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grab a large baking dish, then set it aside. Spread the cubed bread on a baking sheet and toast for 10-15 minutes until lightly golden; transfer to a very large bowl.

Cooking the Aromatics

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter, then add the chopped onions and celery. Cook until softened, about 8-10 minutes.

Combine Ingredients

  • Stir in the minced garlic, fresh sage, thyme, and rosemary, cooking for another 2 minutes until fragrant. Pour the mixture over the toasted bread cubes. In a separate bowl, whisk together the chicken broth and eggs, then pour over the bread mixture. Add the fresh parsley, salt, and pepper, then toss gently to combine.

Baking

  • Transfer the stuffing to the prepared baking dish and cover with foil. Bake for 30 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for another 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crispy.

Serving

  • Let the stuffing rest for 10 minutes before serving. Enjoy your delicious Grandma’s Thanksgiving Stuffing!

Notes

For an even richer flavor, you can use homemade chicken broth. If you prefer a moister stuffing, add an additional 1/2 cup of broth before baking. This recipe can be made ahead of time; simply assemble and refrigerate overnight, then bake as directed, adding an extra 10-15 minutes to the covered baking time.
