Equipment

  • Large Skillet
  • Medium Bowl
  • 9x13 inch Baking Dish

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs Ground Beef or Thinly Sliced Steak (ribeye or sirloin suggested)
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil divided
  • 1 Sweet Onion large, thinly sliced
  • 2 Green Bell Peppers medium, thinly sliced
  • 8 oz Cream Cheese softened
  • 1/2 cup Mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup Sour Cream
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1 tsp Onion Powder
  • 1 tsp Salt or to taste
  • 1/2 tsp Black Pepper or to taste
  • 1 cup Provolone Cheese shredded or sliced
  • 1 cup Cheddar Cheese shredded

Instructions

Preparation

  • Thinly slice the onion and bell peppers. If using steak, slice it very thinly against the grain; if using ground beef, crumble it.
  • Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced onions and peppers, cook until softened and lightly caramelized, then set aside.
  • In the same skillet, add the remaining olive oil if needed. Brown the ground beef, breaking it up and draining any fat, or quickly cook the sliced steak until done, seasoning generously with salt and pepper.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together cream cheese, mayonnaise, sour cream, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and onion powder until smooth, then season to taste.
  • Lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish and spread half of the cooked meat evenly over the bottom.
  • Scatter half of the sautéed onions and peppers over the meat, then dot half of the creamy sauce mixture over the vegetables.
  • Sprinkle half of the provolone and cheddar cheese over the sauce. Repeat the layers with the remaining meat, vegetables, sauce, and finally, top generously with the rest of the cheeses.
  • Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 20-25 minutes, until bubbly and golden.
  • Allow the casserole to rest for 5-10 minutes before serving to let the flavors settle and simplify scooping.

Notes

For easier steak slicing, partially freeze it before cutting. Adjust salt and pepper to your preference. This casserole is perfect for meal prep or a comforting family dinner.
