Ingredients
  

Crust

  • 30-35 Oreo Cookies (1 standard family-size package)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted

Mousse

  • 2 1/2 cups heavy cream very cold
  • 8 ounces cream cheese softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 6 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips good quality, or chopped semi-sweet chocolate bars

Preparation

  • Crush Oreo cookies finely in a food processor or zip-top bag, then combine with melted butter in a medium bowl until well mixed.
  • Divide the buttery crumbs among 9 serving cups and press gently into an even layer, then chill them in the refrigerator.
  • Melt semi-sweet chocolate chips in a microwave in 30-second intervals until smooth, then set aside to cool slightly.
  • Beat softened cream cheese with powdered sugar, cocoa powder, and vanilla extract until creamy and lump-free.
  • Whip cold heavy cream in a separate bowl until stiff peaks form, being careful not to over-whip.
  • Gently fold one-third of the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture, then gradually fold in the rest until light and airy.
  • Slowly drizzle the slightly cooled melted chocolate into the mousse and gently fold until uniformly combined and chocolatey.
  • Spoon or pipe the chocolate mousse over the chilled Oreo crusts, filling the cups almost to the top.
  • Cover and refrigerate for at least 2-4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the mousse to set and flavors to meld.
  • Garnish with extra Oreo crumbs, whipped cream, or chocolate shavings right before serving, as desired.

Notes

For best results, ensure all dairy ingredients are very cold (heavy cream) or softened (cream cheese) as specified. Do not overmix the mousse once the whipped cream is added to maintain its airy texture. Using quality chocolate will elevate the flavor of this dessert. These mousse cups can be made a day in advance for convenience.
