Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb lean ground turkey (93/7 or 90/10 recommended)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • small onion finely diced
  • 2 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 packet taco seasoning (1 oz) (or 2-3 tbsp homemade)
  • 1/2 cup water or chicken broth
  • 12-18 taco shells (hard or soft, corn or flour)

  • shredded lettuce
  • diced tomatoes
  • shredded cheese
  • sour cream
  • salsa
  • avocado/guacamole
  • cilantro
  • lime wedges

Cooking Steps

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground turkey and cook, breaking it up, until browned (about 5-7 minutes). Drain any excess grease.
  • Reduce heat to medium. Add diced onion and cook until softened (3-4 minutes). Stir in minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  • Stir in taco seasoning and water or chicken broth. Simmer for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until liquid is absorbed and mixture is well-seasoned.
  • While turkey simmers, warm taco shells according to package directions using an oven, microwave, or stove-top.
  • Set out warm taco shells, seasoned ground turkey, and toppings.

Notes

For extra flavor, try using fire-roasted tomatoes in your salsa or adding a squeeze of fresh lime juice to the turkey mixture.
