  • 1.5 lbs lean ground beef (80/20 or 90/10)
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce (or Tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar packed
  • 2 tbsp toasted sesame oil
  • 4 garlic minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger grated
  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes (or to taste)
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar (secret ingredient!)
  • Cooked jasmine or white rice for serving
  • Fresh green onions sliced, for garnish
  • Toasted sesame seeds for garnish

  • In a large skillet or wok, cook the ground beef over medium-high heat until it's fully browned, breaking it up with a spoon; then drain any excess fat.
  • While the beef cooks, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, red pepper flakes, and apple cider vinegar in a small bowl to create the sauce.
  • Pour the prepared sauce over the cooked and drained beef in the skillet, stirring well to combine, and heat for 3-5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  • Serve the beef mixture immediately over hot cooked rice and garnish generously with sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds.

Notes

Adjust red pepper flakes to your preferred spice level. For a complete meal, serve with steamed vegetables like broccoli or snap peas.
