Ingredients
  

Taco Meat

  • 1 pound ground meat beef, turkey, or chicken
  • 1 packet (or 2 tablespoons) taco seasoning
  • 1/2 cup water

Taco Shells & Toppings

  • 12 corn or flour tortillas taco-sized
  • head lettuce shredded
  • 2 medium tomatoes diced
  • 1 cup shredded cheese cheddar, Monterey Jack, or a blend
  • 1/2 small onion finely diced (optional)
  • Salsa for serving
  • Sour Cream/Greek Yogurt for serving
  • Avocado/Guacamole for serving (optional)
  • Lime Wedges for serving (optional)

Instructions
 

Taco Preparation

  • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook and break up the ground meat until browned, then drain excess grease.
  • Stir in taco seasoning and water, simmer for 5-7 minutes until most liquid is absorbed and sauce thickens.
  • While meat simmers, prepare toppings: shred lettuce, dice tomatoes and onion (if using), and shred cheese; arrange in separate bowls.
  • Warm tortillas by microwave, dry skillet (30 seconds per side), or wrapped in foil in the oven.
  • Set up a taco bar with seasoned meat, warmed tortillas, and all toppings for self-assembly.

Notes

This recipe is easily customizable with your favorite taco toppings. For a healthier option, use lean ground meat and load up on fresh vegetables.
