Ingredients

For the Beef:

  • 1 lb beef sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp fish sauce
  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup fresh Thai basil leaves

For the Rolls:

  • 12 rice paper wrappers
  • 6 lettuce leaves
  • 1 cup carrots, julienned
  • 1 cup cucumber, julienned
  • 4 oz rice vermicelli noodles, cooked

For the Dipping Sauce (optional):

  • 0.5 cup sweet chili sauce
  • 1 tbsp lime juice
  • 2 tbsp chopped peanuts for garnish

Instructions

Prepare the Beef:

  • In a bowl, combine soy sauce, fish sauce, brown sugar, and minced garlic with the thinly sliced beef sirloin.
  • Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat and cook the marinated beef until browned, then stir in the fresh Thai basil leaves until wilted. Set aside to cool slightly.

Prepare the Rolls:

  • Prepare a shallow dish of warm water; dip one rice paper wrapper in the water for 20-30 seconds until softened.
  • Lay the softened wrapper flat on a clean surface, place a lettuce leaf, a small amount of cooked beef, julienned carrots, cucumber, and vermicelli noodles in the center.
  • Fold the sides of the wrapper inward, then tightly roll from the bottom upwards to create a secure roll. Repeat with remaining ingredients.

Serve:

  • If desired, whisk together sweet chili sauce and lime juice to create a dipping sauce.
  • Serve the Thai Basil Beef Rolls immediately with the dipping sauce and garnish with chopped peanuts.

Notes

For best results, use fresh ingredients. You can also add other vegetables like bell peppers or bean sprouts. If not serving all rolls immediately, store them covered in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours to prevent drying out. Ensure beef is thinly sliced for easy rolling. The dipping sauce can be adjusted to your preferred level of sweetness and spice.
