  • 1 loaf thick-sliced bread
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Preparation

  • Slice the bread into 1-inch thick pieces and arrange them in a single layer in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until well combined.
  • Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread slices, ensuring all pieces are well coated. Cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight.

Baking

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Remove the casserole from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for 15-20 minutes.
  • Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until golden brown and set in the center. Serve warm with your favorite toppings.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider adding a pinch of nutmeg to the egg mixture. You can also add fresh berries or a sprinkle of powdered sugar before serving.
