  • 1 bag Tortilla Chips sturdy, thick-cut
  • 1 pound Ground Beef lean ground beef (or other protein)
  • 1 packet Taco Seasoning (1 ounce) or blend of 1 tbsp cumin, 1 tbsp chili powder, 1 tsp paprika, 1 tsp garlic powder, 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 cup Water
  • 1 cup Salsa your favorite mild or medium
  • 1 can Canned Black Beans rinsed and drained
  • 2 cups Shredded Cheese Cheddar, Monterey Jack, or Mexican blend
  • 1/4 cup Jalapeños sliced (fresh or pickled, optional)

Optional Toppings

  • Sour cream
  • Guacamole
  • Diced tomatoes
  • Red onion
  • Cilantro

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Brown the ground beef in a large skillet, then drain excess grease. Stir in taco seasoning and water, simmering for 5 minutes until absorbed.
  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Spread half the tortilla chips on a large oven-safe platter or baking sheet, then sprinkle with half of the shredded cheese.
  • Evenly spoon half of the seasoned beef, salsa, black beans, and jalapeños over the chips. Repeat with the remaining chips, cheese, meat, salsa, and black beans for a second layer.
  • Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Serve immediately with your favorite optional toppings.

Notes

For extra crispiness, lightly toast the tortilla chips in the oven for a few minutes before adding toppings. Feel free to customize with your preferred protein like shredded chicken or vegetarian options.
