  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar packed
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce ensure vegan if making for vegetarians/vegans
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper or to taste, for a little kick
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Chicken

  • 4-6 boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts
  • Vegetable oil for grilling
  • BBQ rub for chicken Optional: Your favorite

Instructions
 

Craft the Secret Sauce

  • Combine all secret sauce ingredients in a medium saucepan and whisk until smooth.
  • Simmer over medium heat for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened, then let cool.
  • Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as needed, then remove from heat and cool completely.

Prepare the Chicken

  • Pat chicken dry with paper towels and apply BBQ rub if desired.
  • Marinate chicken in 1/2 cup of secret sauce for 30 minutes to 4 hours in the refrigerator, reserving the rest for basting.

Grill the Chicken

  • Preheat grill to medium-high heat (375-400°F) and lightly oil the grates.
  • Grill chicken for 5-7 minutes per side until the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
  • Brush chicken liberally with reserved sauce during the last 10-15 minutes, turning to ensure even glazing.

Rest and Serve

  • Remove chicken from grill and let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
  • Serve with extra secret sauce on the side for dipping.

Notes

For best flavor, marinate the chicken for at least 2 hours. Adjust cayenne pepper to your preferred spice level.
